Memory Clinic and Dementia

Overview

Dementia is a condition of the brain which causes gradual loss of memory, thinking ability, reasoning, comprehending, language and behavioural issues. As the disease progresses, the patient may lose the ability to look after themselves on a daily basis.  It is a common problem which generally occurs in people as they age.

Dementia can occur as a result of various types of neurological and non neurological diseases and disorders. Commonly, most cases are caused by Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and dementia with lewy bodies.  To successfully manage and control dementia from progressing it is crucial that the patient is evaluated and the cause of dementia is identified in a well-timed manner.

Diagnosis

At Citi Neuro Centre, patients suffering from acute memory and cognition condition are timely and accurately evaluated and diagnosed by our dedicated team of neurologists, clinical psychologists and speech pathologists.

Since dementias result from a range of developmental, acquired and degenerative causes, it's vitally important to identify the precise cause of the disorder in order to determine prognosis and maximize treatment. Our neurologists use clinical examination, advanced MRI, molecular and neuropsychological techniques to accurately diagnose patient conditions and develop the most effective treatment plans.
